According to information obtained by The Athletic, Ian Poveda may leave Leeds United during the summer transfer window.
It is currently thought that Poveda’s appearance for the Yorkshire team is his last, as he left the team in the January transfer window to sign a season-long loan with Sheffield Wednesday.
Leeds is not anticipated to extend the 23-year-old’s contract, which is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign, at Elland Road. Following this season, the club allegedly does not see the former Manchester City youth player in its plans.
London-born Poveda appeared in just ten games for Leeds this season before making his Sheffield Wednesday debut in last week’s 4-0 loss to Huddersfield Town. In his career, he has made two appearances for Colombia on the world stage. After joining the Owls on loan from Leeds to take on a fresh challenge, Poveda recently voiced his happiness with the move.

“I am really glad to be in this place. Me and the manager had a meeting. It made all the difference, in my opinion. I was more than delighted to attend, given his approach to play and flair. Its completion makes me joyful. Excitement fills me.
Many more players are anticipated to depart in addition to the former England U20 international, who is scheduled to depart in June when his contract ends. Among such players are Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas, and captain Liam Cooper. The Peacocks are currently one point behind Southampton in second place in the Championship, who still have a game in hand.
There isn’t yet a buy option in the Poveda loan agreement. In the event that Leeds sticks to their choice to not extend an offer to the player, Wednesday will become free agency should they choose not to sign the player to a long-term contract this summer. Transfermarkt estimates the winger’s current worth at £769.
My opinion.
When he was a member of Manchester City’s academy, Poveda was considered a very skilled young player. But after that, he never lived up to his full potential. The international football player still has a lot of time to grow and improve because he is only 23.
Even with guys like Daniel James and Crysencio Summerville having such stellar seasons, Farke’s options for playing time were always going to be restricted given the talent he now has at his disposal. Leaving might change Poveda’s professional path and provide him the chance to reclaim the form that made him so acclaimed in his youth.
