After their 0-0 draw vs. Orlando City on Wednesday evening, the Herons boss discussed a range of subjects in his postgame press conference, most notably giving an update on their summer transfer plans. Indeed, with the Herons having been linked with signing a new goalkeeper, Costa Rican legend Keylor Navas has emerged as a possible target.
The 37-year-old is set to be a free agent this summer after his deal with PSG expires. He’s made just five appearances since the start of the 2023–24 campaign, playing second-string to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The veteran could rival U.S. international Drake Callender, who has struggled with inconsistency this campaign. Even though Martino was adamant that they’re happy with the shotstopper’s performances of late, the speculation relating to Navas’ possible arrival is unlikely to go away.
“There will be several names that will pop up,” Martino told reporters. “At this moment, we have a couple of months until the window opens; we’re not thinking about that right now.”
The Herons are back in action this weekend against D.C. United as they look to remain unbeaten across six league matches. Meanwhile, the game will see two contenders for the Golden Boot face off, with both Luis Suarez and Christian Benteke currently on 11 goals.
