Breaking news: Aston Villa is set to terminate Philippe Coutinho’s contract.

The Brazilian looks set to leave Villa Park permanently after spending this season on loan with Al-Duhail in Qatar. According to Fabrizio Romano (May 26), Vasco da Gama is interested in signing Coutinho, with talks progressing and Coutinho keen on the move. Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Dan Bardell believes Coutinho’s time at Villa has been unsuccessful, and cutting ties makes sense as the summer transfer window approaches. Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said:

“It’s clear that Coutinho’s tenure at Villa has not worked out as hoped. Given his high wages and the need to rebuild the squad, moving him on is the best decision for all parties involved. It allows Villa to free up resources and focus on bringing in players who can contribute more consistently to the team’s success.”

“He won’t mesh with Emery’s goals if he can’t stay at Villa for a Conference League campaign, given Villa’s aspirations for the upcoming season.”He has shown to be a very costly error. Even though he occasionally made us laugh, things haven’t worked out in the long run, and Villa can’t support that kind of pay.PSR will be greatly aided if they can get those wages off the books and terminate his contract early.

“I think if they can move him on, it would be beneficial, and I hope it gets done early so everyone knows where they stand. When Villa signed Coutinho, there was a palpable excitement around the club. The Brazilian was renowned for his time at Liverpool and had just come off a Champions League triumph with Bayern Munich. Although his move to Barcelona for over £100m didn’t go as planned, he did have to contend with playing alongside Lionel Messi during his time there.”

In his first 19 appearances for the Villans on loan, he scored five goals, demonstrating his explosiveness at times [FotMob]. Villa decided to exercise their option to buy him permanently for £17 million [Sky Sports], but this turned out to be a bad decision. After that, everything has gone south, with just one goal and a summer loan to Qatar due to a shortage of playing time. With the Champions League approaching, it is imperative to prioritize PSR, and Coutinho’s departure will contribute to that.
