It is understood that the Argentine left-back is “about to join” Aston Villa, having previously been linked with a move to Villa Park. Acuña claimed last month that he was denied a transfer to Villa due to “personal” issues between Monchi and Sevilla President Jose Castro. Although Acuña was linked with a move to Villa Park last summer, he remained in Spain.
He spoke out about the failed transfer, asserting that Villa made “an important offer” to Sevilla. “They were not rumors; Sevilla had an important offer that, due to personal reasons of the president and Monchi, was not closed, and I was the one affected,” he said. “I think I didn’t deserve it because a good amount of money would have come in, but that’s already happened, and I’m focused now on the remaining dates.”
When talking about his future, Acuña acknowledged it was unknown. “I have a contract until 2025, but I don’t know,” he stated. “First, I have to accumulate minutes, play games, and then see what comes next.”
“I’m not sure. Both I and the other members of the group have faith in ourselves. I’m not interested in what people from outside have to say. I believe I have given it my all in every game I have played. I always try to give it my all.”
