The 28-year-old left Aston Villa after falling in Unai Emery’s hierarchy, but he has no ill will toward the manager.
As he bids Aston Villa and its supporters farewell, Bertrand Traore has expressed his thanks. On deadline day, the winger completed his more than three-year stay with the Claret & Blues by signing a contract to join Villarreal. He was able to sign with the La Liga team since his contract was dissolved with just a few months left on it.
After reportedly paying over £17 million to go from Lyon, Traore left Villa Park in September 2020 due to a drop in his standing.
He appeared in 62 games for Villa in all, scoring 10 goals. But he only made two cameos in the Premier League this season—none since October 29—and only made six appearances overall.
Injuries and his absence from the Africa Cup of Nations hampered his last weeks with the team. But he had a good first season at Villa despite this, which led him to post a thank-you message on Instagram: “Thank you Aston Villa! I appreciate all of the Villa supporters! I will always remember you! I’m grateful for everything you’ve done.
Along with Moussa Diaby, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Leon Bailey, Villa’s offensive options are still good. Emi Buendia is out due to a long-term injury, and Morgan Rogers, who joined the team on deadline day, has added depth. Having arrived from the Auxerre junior setup, Traore has previously played for Chelsea.
